So, 4 days until Valentine’s Day. Have I convinced you? Do you agree with my idea that ‘Everybody loves Somebody?’ If not, I’ve got another tactic. While reading about history and facts of Valentine’s Day, I came across a sister holiday. It’s called Quirkyalone Day. This quote from the website describes it best:
International Quirkyalone Day is a do-it-yourself celebration of romance, friendship, and independent spirit. It’s a celebration of all kinds of love: romantic, platonic, familial, and yes, self-love. International Quirkyalone Day is not anti-Valentine’s Day. It’s NOT a pity party for single people.
It’s an alternative and it’s NOT just for singles. This idea came from Sasha Cagen’s book Quirkyalone: A Manifesto for Uncompromising Romantics. Note the word ‘uncompromising.’ Never give up what you love.
I was pretty excited to find that someone out there agrees with my appreciation of February 14th. This is a day to love your friends, family, significant other and YOURSELF. It is a day to make your favorite dessert, do fun activities, and just all around treat yo-self.
Remember my #WeeklyWhim idea? Make this your weekly whim! Celebrate Quirkyalone and Valentine’s day this week. Here are my plans.
- Go out for coffee and dessert
- Make ourselves bouquets at local flower shop
- Donate a book to a little free library (If you don’t know what little free library is go search it now!)
- Classic movie
- Eat at a new place
- See the play the Iliad
Do what makes you excited and happy. Take this day to feel loved! And in the meantime, go check out Quirkyalone Day. It’s pretty interesting.
