Praying for Rain

On the 2nd Saturday of our visit (Saturdays are holy days for Nepal) we decided to experience a Hindu/religious gathering where Nepali’s gathered to pray for rain.

I was curious how we would be regarded as foreigners and people that do not identify with this religion. It was wonderful. We learned some of their customs including writing prayers on leaves to release to the river, reading religious texts and eating together once the rain had come (it was delicious).

An elderly man came to talk to us. He expressed that he was grateful that we were coming to learn about their culture and happy we were there. I found that very inviting and wished all religions around the world encouraged the learning of outsiders instead of shutting people out for different beliefs. Learning is a powerful thing that should be promoted for better understand and a more peaceful culture.

Namaste!
