Happiness! Everyone deserves it. Everyone should strive for it. Everyone should live it.
2 Weeks ago, for the Rawxies Life Blog, I wrote an article with easy tips on how to make happiness your way of life. It’s easy, you just have to make it a habit. Here is the article and to see it online on Rawxies click here.
Everyone deserves a happy life and that includes Y-O-U. Use these tips to lighten your day and make every day a good one. Little adjustments can make a big difference.
EXERCISE || Sometimes when you’re stressed the last thing you want to do is exert more effort by exercising. However, getting your blood flowing and your heart pumping can drastically improve your mood, clear your mind and help you overcome anxiety and depression. Going on walks, bike rides or jogs are also good ways to have some time to yourself. Breathing fresh air and taking time to think is very beneficial. Plus your body will feel healthier, which is an added bonus!
SLEEP || Sleep contributes to your wellbeing in multiple ways. It affects your clarity of mind, emotions, ability to cope and even your ability to lose/maintain weight. We all know what it is like to function on less than adequate sleep…don’t be that friend that is cranky simply because they didn’t get enough zzzz’s.
FAMILY AND FRIENDS || Be social! Having ‘me’ time is beneficial, but seeing people that you enjoy talking to and that make you smile can really influence your mood. They will be there to listen to you when you’re down or laugh with you and be silly. These relationships are where the best happy memories are built.
SUNSHINE || Get that vitamin D! It’s as simple as 20 minutes outside in beautiful weather. It will clear your mind, boost creativity and lighten your mood. Enjoy nature with a loved one, take a walk on a sunny day and enjoy the organic things of life.
VOLUNTEER || Serving others through volunteering not only helps others, but helps you as well. Whether it is seeing that you are positively affecting another person’s life, enjoying the social aspect of working with others or realizing that maybe your life isn’t so bad afterall…volunteering is more than worth it. Find something you enjoy doing and take friends! Plant flowers, organize books, make soup at a soup kitchen and watch as many thankful people enjoy the fruits of your labor.
MEDITATE || Meditating is a time of reflection and contemplation. Whether you do this through prayer, spirituality, yoga, or simple meditation, this allows your body and brain to calm down the craziness of life. Meditating will help your awareness, lets you work through issues and helps in coming to well thought out conclusions. Do this to start your day with a clear mind or before bed to help you relax.
GRATITUDE || Practice being thankful. When things are going badly, you’re hit with bad news or you’re just feeling down in the dumps, practicing gratitude can be the perfect solution. How do you do this? Journal, tell a friend your favorite part of each day, send someone a grateful text or card, do the 100 Happy days (doing 100 happy things for 100 days) challenge. By consciously thinking about the good things in life, your attitude and mood will drastically change for the better!
TREAT YOSELF || You ALWAYS deserve a brownie, a run, an episode of New Girl or a walk with your puppy. Treating yourself each day helps you remember that YOU are worth every bit of happiness. You do not need to work up to a treat for yourself. Pick a small thing that makes you happy each day and do it. In fact, as soon as you are done reading these tips go do something fun! I’ll be getting ice-cream.
BUY EXPERIENCES NOT STUFF || You know the term ‘money doesn’t buy happiness?’ Where money is not the provider of happiness, you can use it to do things with friends and family that bring joy. Instead of buying a new toy, shirt or trinket, instead buy an experience. Get tickets for a baseball game, go to the art museum, buy ingredients at the farmers market and then cook a delicious meal, etc. Using little sums of money to create fun experiences is always a worthwhile way to spend your money.
GET OFF YOUR PHONE || We are constantly being bombarded with texts, messages, social media, updates, live streaming and so much more on our smart devices. It is hard to not get caught up in quickly checking your email or posting about what you are doing online. Taking some time to put away your phone allows your mind to focus on the things going on around you. You will be more attentive and fulfilled having fully experienced something without glancing down at your phone every five minutes. Start small by putting it away at meals or checking it only periodically through the day.
We want to know- what have you found that makes your life happier? I would love to hear it!
