the making of a book

I’ve recently signed on with a not-for-profit organization that is publishing a book about printmaking. I was really excited when they reached out to me (out of the blue) and offered me this opportunity. It ended up being a KU connection. Just another reason being good to the people you meet can pay off later on in life. I wouldn’t have gotten many of the side jobs I’ve done if I hadn’t been introduced by an acquaintance!

Being a design major, I’ve always enjoyed dabbling in art. Taking miscellaneous printmaking, painting, ceramics, metals and many other art classes gets me intrigued when I get the opportunity to work with or around it.

I’ll be designing the entire layout of this book and see it printed with my name in it- how cool is that?! The original layout they showed me was very bland, so I went with some bold colors and different grids to liven up this book. It needed char action…it’s about art after all!

Here are the first layout options: keep in mind these are my very first layout attempts and there will be lots of improving and adding to come!

The response back so far  was as follows, “wow wow wow great and fun let me digest this and talk to adelia wow” (From Hugh, the printmaker).

I take it they like the progress. That’s a good feeling, let me tell you 😉

Stay tuned for more update process photos, with less commentary I promise!
